Home Improvement Marches On
An interesting set of statistics from a home service survey run last month.

Regardless of the ups and downs of the economy, 77% of homeowners responding to last month's survey said they're still planning home improvement or repair projects this year, with the majority of people-- 39%-- intending to spruce up their yards, decks or landscaping. The second- and third-most popular categories were kitchen (17%) and bathroom (15%) projects. As for selecting and hiring pros to do this work, most respondents (56%) felt the best contractors are more likely to be available this year and, better yet, 74% of the respondents felt these same pros will be more competitive in their pricing. Nevertheless, hiring pros for maintenance work is lower priority-- 30% of the survey respondents feel they'll hire pros the same number of times this year for maintenance work, but most, 39%, are less likely to hire out their maintenance work and just do it themselves.
