Within three years of its founding, the city had surpassed Portland, Oregon, as the most populous in the Northwest. And no wonder: during the gold rush more than $250,000,000.00 worth of the precious yellow metal was taken from the Boise Basin. After the rush, gold prospectors left in droves.

Today, Idaho City is a small mountain town. Many from Boise visit this beautiful town and several even commute back and forth, just to live in the mountains. Here one can wake up and look out their window to see everything from wild turkeys to elk and wolf. There are many back roads to explore and mountain tops to climb. Idaho City is also known for hot springs and great camping spots with creeks throughout.
