Established December 22, 1864, Ada County was named after Ada Riggs, who was the first pioneer child born in the area. Ada was the daughter of H. C. Riggs who was one of the founders of Boise and a member of the Idaho Territorial Legislature. Boise became the capital of Idaho in 1865.
