Idaho's Medal of Honor Recipients

This Veteran's Day, in addition to thanking and honoring all of those who served, we wanted to highlight those service members who received the nation's highest honor and have a connection to Idaho.

March 25th marks National Medal of Honor Day. This is a celebration and remembrance for our military service members who went above and beyond the call of duty to serve their country and were rewarded with the nation’s highest honor. We wanted to show the Medal of Honor recipients who are living in Idaho, were born in Idaho, and who are buried in Idaho.

The stretch of US Highway-20 that runs through Idaho (from Parma to Yellowstone) was recently renamed the Idaho Medal of Honor Highway by then-Governor Brad Little on July 1, 2019. Highway 20 stretches from Oregon to Massachusetts. The Military Order of the Purple Heart is currently working with each state that US-20 runs through to rename the highway the Medal of Honor Highway from coast to coast.

The information in this article was compiled from the Idaho Military Museum and the Idaho Military Historical Society. Their website lists more people than this article does because it also contains people who trained and served in conflicts in Idaho, but who were neither born nor buried here. For the purposes of our article, we focused on those latter two criteria.

We will add their information to our Famous People from Idaho page in the near future.
