Spring and summer are the prime time for home renovations thanks to warm weather and longer daylight hours. Home renovation covers a wide variety of projects from getting a new light fixture in the kitchen to adding a deck to the backyard. Some projects are large enough that they require a building permit. But where is the cutoff for needing/not needing a permit? We will provide examples of when you will need a permit for fixing up your home.

2020 saw home prices rise to nearly unprecedented levels as pent-up homebuyer demand was let out across the country. Idaho saw the highest increases in home prices and the lowest levels of inventory in the nation as thousands of people move to the state to get a piece of Idaho for themselves. As a result of rising home prices across the nation, the Federal Housing Finance Agency announced it would raise the amount of money that qualified buyers could borrow in 2021.

COVID-19 and 2020 were a paradox. A new and novel virus spread quickly around the world leading to shutdowns, layoff, stay-at-home orders, and an economic recession. After the initial shock and awe period, the housing market started to explode around the country, especially in Idaho—spurned forward by rock-bottom interest rates. Since then, the housing market has taken off. Now that COVID vaccines are beginning to be distributed, this is how we see the effects playing out.
