wheat-straw fencing Main The Durable Green Home
many new products are coming out that are both environmentally friendly and durable. Trex has been the main building material for decks that has made an impact on this area, but new products are coming out as the industry and consumers demand more green durable products.Heartland BioComposites of Torrington Wyoming has commercialized a new breed of composite wood.....

they are using annually renewable le wheat straw rather than wood flour and has introduced its first product, a privacy fence. by blending regional wheat straw and compounding it with polyethylene the raw materials  are described by the company as non-hazardous and organic. this product comes in a variety of colors and has a 20 year residential warranty (try to get your wood fence to last that long). the company is touting the cost benefits over vinyl and wood.  the product like many composites are heavy 5.4 pounds for a 74 inch piece, so you need to design accordingly. i have seen many decks that have tried to take short cuts on framing member spacing with composites and the OCEAN wave effect is seen the next year. Don't short  cut the framing. for more information go to www.heartlandbio.com also for all you LEED people  out there, this can be a local product for some of your projects!  hats off to Heath van Eaton for developing a product out of waste and annually renewable straw. Is this COOL STUFF OR WHAT!
