Perceptions of Quality Main Boise Home Design
Raising the Bar: Quality of Finish Hardware Installation in homes.

It's the most frequent situation I encounter about hardware.  In fact, today, while at the local hair salon, my stylist (a completely new acquaintance), upon learning of our industry informed me that she bought her home - new construction, and it had satin nickel hinges with brass door hardware.

Having directly experienced her frustrations, I am plagued with the question.  What can local building suppliers do to better educate contractors about hardware -- finish, design, installation, function, etc. ??

Keep checking back as we solicit solutions.

Re:Perceptions of Quality

Lloyd Lumber, my door supplier, always asks what finish I want on my hinges. Because most of my homes are design-build custom homes, the selection of hardware finish is up to the buyer and we require them to finalize that selection prior to our ordering the interior trim package which includes the interior doors so we can be sure that the hinges match their selection.

Re:Perceptions of Quality
Hardware is similiar to lighting- it sticks out like a sore thumb if it is even slightly bad or cheap looking. Also no one notices average but everyone comments on great looking accents to a home. Don't screw up hardware or lighting!

Re:Perceptions of Quality
YIKES!! Non matching hardware screams "Here I am" We dont always want that! I do have to say I used to be pretty "dumb" to hardware in a home. I never paid attention to that kind of detail until recently. Now I find myself checking out hardware in someones home, or noticing what kind of front door appearance is on a home. A beautiful home, then a brass handleset.. Ya ok, it will pass, but only if the homeowner knew how many different styles and finishes are available, I dont think brass would be around to much longer, do you? Who mismatches door knobs with hinges? Who built that house? Come on folks, the economy is down enough, dont cut corners to finish a job on a home that may be sitting for a while. Maybe if builders put a little more effort into detail, the homes would sell better. I dont know though, that is my opinion.
