Flynner Homes Progress on Idahos First NAHB Certified Green Home!

Main Building Value into Boise Real Estate

Follow the construction process as Flynner Homes builds their first of many certified green homes.

Certified green homes use a holistic approach to the construction process, which incorporates environmental, personal and financial considerations into every phase of the building procedure.

There are 7 Guiding Principals of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building Program that take these environmental, personal, and financial considerations into account. They are:

  1. Lot Design, Preparation, and Development
  2. Resource Efficiency
  3. Energy Efficiency
  4. Water Efficiency
  5. Indoor Environmental Quality
  6. Operation Maintenance and Homeowner Education
  7. Global Impact

We are currently satisfying Principal 3, Energy Efficiency, which consists of:

  • Energy Star Certification
  • Right-sizing the HVAC equipment using regulatory load calculation software
  • Conducting third-party verification of Energy Efficiency Section 3
  • HVAC installer is certified by a nationally recognized program
  • Ducts, plenums and HVAC equipment are sealed with mastic to reduce leakage
  • Energy Star ceiling fans
  • Whole-house instantaneous (tankless) water heater
  • All hot water lines are insulated with 1-inch insulation
  • Energy Star dishwasher, refrigerator and washing machine
  • Lighting does not penetrate the building envelope
  • Conduct a blower door and duct leaking tests

Stay tuned as we move through the certification process. I will be updating you on the green aspects of the home that will contribute to our green certification, which is obtained by utilizing a third-party NAHB certified verifier.

For those of you who want to watch the construction process, the Willowgreens Community is located on Willow Lane. Head West on State Street from Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. Willow Lane is the next stop light. Turn left (South) and go down past the Willow Lane Sports Complex to the end of the road. Or you can ride your bike or walk down the Boise Greenbelt.
