Flynner Homes Progress on Idaho?s First NAHB Certified Green Home!

Main Building Value into Boise Real Estate
Follow the construction process as Flynner Homes? builds their first of many certified green homes.

Certified green homes use a holistic approach to the construction process, which incorporates environmental, personal and financial considerations into every phase of the building procedure.

There are 7 Guiding Principals of the National Association of Home Builder’s (NAHB) National Green Building Program that take these environmental, personal, and financial considerations into account. They are:
  1. Lot Design, Preparation, and Development
  2. Resource Efficiency
  3. Energy Efficiency
  4. Water Efficiency
  5. Indoor Environmental Quality
  6. Operation Maintenance and Homeowner Education
  7. Global Impact
We are currently satisfying Principal 5, Indoor Environmental Quality, which consists of:
  • Install space heating and water heating equipment in isolated mechanical room with an outdoor source combustion and ventilation air.
  • Install a direct-vent, sealed combustion gas fireplace.
  • Ensure a tightly-sealed door between the garage and living space, and provide continuous air barrier between garage and living areas including are sealing penetrations, walls, ceilings and floors
  • Ensure particleboard, medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and hardwood plywood sub-straights are certified to low formaldehyde emission standards. Must meet American National Standard Institutes (ANSI) requirements.
  • Install carpet, carpet pad and floor covering adhesives that hold “green label” from Carpet and Rug Institute’s air quality testing program.
  • Add MERV 9 filters on central air or ventilation systems.
  • Install cold water lines with one-half-inch insulation.
  • Insulate HVAC ducts in unconditioned spaces.
Stay tuned as we move through the certification process. I will be updating you on the green aspects of the home that will contribute to our green certification, which is obtained by utilizing a third-party NAHB certified verifier.
For those of you who want to watch the construction process the Willowgreens Community is located on Willow Lane. Head West on State Street from Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. Willow Lane is the next stop light. Turn left (South) and go down past the Willow Lane Sports Complex to the end of the road. Or you can ride your bike or walk down the Boise Greenbelt.
