Cabinetry Quality Main Idaho Interior Design
Make sure you are comparing apples to apples....Learn more about Idaho Cabinet makers and what to look for in qulaity.

There are so many cabinet manufactures and custom cabinet makers out there! What makes a cabinet a good quality cabinet? Things to look for/ask for:

Basic Cabinet Construction: Are cabinets face frame or European style? A face frame cabinet typically has a wood frame applied to a particle board box. The doors attach to the face frame. In this style you see more space between the door and drawer fronts.
A European style cabinet has no face frame attached to the box. Typically the edges are finished with a veneer of wood or plastic edging to match the finish. Doors attach to the cabinet box, which allows them to fit tightly together providing a more seamless look. Either style can be considered good quality if constructed correctly.
Drawer Boxes: This is an area where it is easy to spot quality and/or cut corners to save on cost. Are the drawer boxes solid wood with dovetail joints? Made of melamine particle board? Stapled together? Is the drawer box a full 4 sided box with an applied front or is it 3 sides attached to a front?
Drawer Guides & Hardware: How much weight are guides rated to handle? Are they standard or self closing? This is an area that can add a lot of cost to a bid, but is important not to skimp!
Finish: Ask what the steps are to the finish process. How many coats of paint or stain? What type protective topcoat is used?
Mouldings/Trim: Is crown moulding included in your bid? What options are available for furniture style base trim as opposed to recessed toe kicks?
This is just a very basic lesson on cabinetry. As you can see there are many, many questions to be answered in order to make sure you get the most for your money. This is where an experienced designer can be extremely helpful to help weed through the details.
