Re:2009 Top Producing Boise/ Ada County Home Builders
Thanks for posting these numbers. I was surprised by some of the numbers. For example, I would never have guessed CBH would have pulled more permits in 2009. Another interesting thing to me was the lack of names I used to see on the list and the number of ones I don't know.

It is only February and it is amazing how I can already see signs of significant changes again for this year!

Re:2009 Top Producing Boise/ Ada County Home Builders
Teddy Roosevelt said, ?Every man owes a part of his time and money to the business or industry in which he is engaged. No man has a moral right to withhold his support from an organization that is striving to improve conditions within his sphere.?

I think it is interesting that of the 39 builders who built the most homes in 2009, only 20 are members of the Building Contractors of SW Idaho, the Idaho Building Contractors Association, and the National Association of Home Builders.

Do the other 19 know what these associations and their members do on behalf of the building industry locally, in Idaho, and nationally.

Do they know about the professional education and certifications they offer to help them run their businesses more effectively and efficiently and to sell even more homes.

Do they know what our lobbyist, Jeremy Pisca, and the active, dedicated members of our local and state association have accomplished on behalf of the home building industry at the State level? For example, do they know that we were responsible for

- The Notice and Opportunity to Repair Act legislation insuring them the opportunity to respond to customer problems before the customer can sue them
- The Contractor Registration Act legislation insuring them that the builders they compete with are required to register and follow the same regulations
- Passing legislation that prevents the mandating of fire sprinklers in single family residences and duplexes
- Defeating legislation that would have allowed the Idaho Transportation Department, local school districts, library districts, and utilities to impose impact fees.
- Helping to establish CID's to provide a mechanism that allows developer to prepay impact fees or finance impact fee eligible infrastructure with bonding secured by property tax.
- Reforming the Idaho State Building Code Board by adding another contractor to the board and changing the way codes are adopted.

Do they know that the National Association of Home Builders actively works with members of Congress and federal agencies on issues affecting the housing industry to insure that housing remains a priority in the public policy arena. Current issues include financial services regulatory reform; the future role and structure of the housing GSE?s (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac); the tightening of single-family mortgage credit standards; the acquisition, development, and construction credit crunch; appraisal issues; health care reform; EPA Stormwater Rules; climate hange legislation and rules; and building energy efficiency legislation. Or do they know that NAHB provides free legal research assistance and information on building industry-related issues to members and affiliated home builder associations, provides free legal review of local ordinances and state legislation that impact the development and construction Industry, assists members and builders associations with litigation strategies in both federal and state courts, provides funding to help defray the cost of litigation, or provides briefs to appellate courts in support of an ongoing cases.

I think it?s time these 19 builders supported the organizations that are continually striving to improve conditions in the home building industry.

While I can appreciate your message, Chuck, I wonder if you can tell me how many of the top 10 on this list are NOT members of their industry associations.

Echo,

Of the top 10, 4 are not members of either the BCASWI or the SRVBCA.
