5 tips to find a great house that you can enjoy for years to come. Remember if you buy a house for a home to enjoy instead of an investment, you will make a better decision.

There are a lot of people who spend Saturday morning checking out garage sales but if you are reading this Idaho Real Estate blog post, finding a new home for sale is probably more important. Searching the MLS for Homes for Sale, learning about the areas that best fit your lifestyle, Boise schools and researching communities and possibly idaho home builders may interest you more.

There is a lot fothe same out there and finding a unique porperty takes your due diligence. If you have a target deadline that is fine but plan on spending 3 to nine months finding a home and moving in.

Five tips to findind a great house

  1. Gather the real estate collateral at the front of any of the box stores or gas stations. This can give you a lot of ideas to get your started. You should get new magazines regualrly.
  2. Sign up on a real estate site that emails you every morning the latest listings. You can filter new listings with criteria that fit your home search. BuildIdaho does not offer this service currently, but it is coming.
  3. Network. This will give you ideas and the chance to meet numerous people in the industry so you can determine whom you like best when the time comes to commit.
  4. Do the homework. Don't just take people's word for it, verify it. You can look up property tax information, go meet the principal at the nearby school, drive around the community or even walk and meet the neighbors. Ask for a home inspection report.
  5. Get all your ducks in a row when you are ready to pull the trigger. Verify with your loan prrofessional the financing. Ask you financial advisor about how much money you have. Review comparables in the area so that your offer is market based and not emotionally driven.
