Remodel or Move? 25 Points to Consider

1.      Do you own your home? How much do you owe on this home?

2.      When you purchased your home how much did you pay?

3.      What could you sell your home for today?

4.      Cosmetically how would you rate your home today?

5.      Is it ready to sell or do you need to do some minor clean up, repair and painting, etc.?

6.      What is your current annual property tax bill?

7.      Is your goal to live in your dream house, or will any comfortable house meet your needs?

8.      If you move to a house today that has all the features you need, what would it cost?

9.      If you move, what would your property tax be in your new home?

10. How long have you lived in your home?

11. If you remodel or move, how many years will you live in the house?

12. Who will do the basic design sketches and ideas?

13. Will you prepare the design drawings and apply for the permit yourself or hire someone?

14. Will you manage the project yourself or will you hire a full service contractor?

15. How much of the work will you do yourself? Electrical, framing, painting?

16. Will you hire a full service mover, or pack yourself and rent a truck?

17. Are you satisfied with your local schools?

18. How important is the quality of the schools to you?

19. How do you feel about the location of your home in relation to your place of employment and other places you visit regularly (grocery store, etc.)?

20. What are your feelings about the remodeling process? Are you excited about it?

21. How important is the neighborhood to you?

22. Do you like your current neighborhood?

23.   Do you like the floor plan in your current home?

24. Is the size and condition of your home's yard important to you?
