It is time for a new word in real estate Main Idaho Real Estate Insights

Just about every listing now promotes the home being advertised as 'custom.' Is this word up to the perspective of the reader?

I have always copnsidered a custom home to mean that the home buyer designed it or chose the finishes at least. A purist would say the floorplans are also unique.

As I look at listings now a  days, it seems every home is custom. How can this be? I could give in to an existing home for sale that was built as a custom home is custom but a new home for sale that is already built is not truly a custom home. All the pieces are already chosen. It is not even a semi-custom home? IF it is a production home, it is not close to custom because there has to be some level of uniqueness in the words 'custom home'.

I propose that listings should describe homes accurately. If it is a production home, don't call it custom, it degrades the word and the homes that really are. If it is a well-appointed home with many upgrades that seems a better description.

What do you think?
