A Guide to Moving Out or Moving In During the Summer Heat Main Idaho Real Estate Insights

For many reasons, summer is one of the most popular times of the year to move. After all, the kids are out of school, and work is slow because everyone at the office seems to be revolving in and out on vacation. This is especially true for families moving long distance.

But, summer can also be one of the most exhausting times of year to move thanks to the heat and humidity. The boxes just seem to be heavier in the summer, and the moving just seems to take twice as long. There are some things you can do to combat a summer move, however. Follow these tips to make your summer move as successful as possible.

Drink Water!
The more water you drink, the less sluggish you’ll feel as you’re moving boxes out of the house. If it’s especially hot and you don’t keep yourself hydrated, you’ll run the chance of suffering from heat exhaustion; or even worse, heat stroke. Remind yourself to take good gulps of water every fifteen minutes, especially if you’re a heavy sweater. Hydrate the night before and the morning of the move as well.

Start Early
Obviously the earlier you start the cooler it will be. Consider starting as early as you can in the morning, and taking a break during the peak periods of heat (1pm to 4pm). You can resume again in the evening if you have a particularly big moving job to finish.

Let Your Clothing Breathe
Clothing that wicks moisture away from your body is the absolute best to wear while working in the heat. But if you don’t own any of this type of clothing, don’t fret. Just make sure your clothing is light, loose fitting, and breathes well.

Use Sunblock… And A Hat
Protect your skin, it will be the last thing on your mind when you’re toiling away in mid move. Apply a generous coating of long lasting sunscreen and consider wearing a hat to keep your head and face protected. The last thing you need to deal with while moving out of your home, or into your new one, is a sunburn.

Other Ways To Keep Cool
A good tip to take advantage of is to keep a cooler full of icy water nearby. Take a towel and dip it in the water, then wrap the towel around your neck. As soon as it warms up, repeat the process. It will go along way in making you feel comfortable while you’re working. On the other hand, there are many moving companies that will practically do it all for.

Go Crazy With The A/C
Now is not the time to worry about your electric bill. Yes, you will have the door open often both at your old place and your new place while you’re moving boxes in or out. But, you’ll be much more comfortable if your body is greeted with a pleasant chill everytime you walk through the door.

Quitting Time Will Call You
Listen to your body. You’ll know when you’re just not able to take anymore for one day. Let your body rest and get back at it tomorrow. Or, at the very least, take a lot of breaks. There’s nothing wrong with slow rolling a move while keeping your own health the priority.
