Spring Cleaning Tips to make Your House Look Amazing

Main Treasure Valley Life

Spring is here! As the weather warms up and the sun shines longer, it's time to give your house the deep clean it deserves. If you are planning on selling your house this year, spring cleaning is a great start to making your home look amazing. Here are a few tips to make the most out of your spring cleaning.

Open your doors and windows

The first thing you should do when starting spring cleaning is open up your house. Opening doors and windows lets in new air and flushes the house of old, stale, humid winter air. Have ceiling and box fans running as well to improve circulation in areas like bathrooms, closets and hallways.

Dust

While your house was sealed up tight during the winter, it probably held onto a lot of dust. Wipe down bookshelves, baseboards, fan blades, cabinets, and other places that aren’t used every day. You’ll be amazed at how clean everything looks with a little dusting.

Filters

Just like when you prep your house for fall, replace the filters in your heaters and air conditioners. Old filters have trapped a lot of dust, dirt, and allergens, but they make it difficult to circulate air effectively. In addition, new filters will save you money on your utility bills because they increase efficiency.

Fridge

This isn’t anyone’s favorite job, but pulling everything out of the fridge and cleaning it is necessary. Use soap and water to wipe down shelves and drawers of spilled food and drinks. In addition, you get to check to see if that sour cream in the back has expired or not.

Swap cold weather clothes for warm weather clothes

As the weather warms up, you won’t need heavy parkas, boots, ski pants and base layers. Clean your cold weather gear and store them until the weather cools off again. As you bring out your warm weather clothes, use this as a time to decide what you want to keep or give away. If something doesn’t fit or is old, get rid of it.

Vacuum

With all of the dusting and cleaning, it becomes necessary to vacuum all of the dirt, pet hair, and dust that accumulates during the winter. Before you start, be sure to get a new filter, use a new bag (or clean out the collection chamber), and clean the brush heads and attachments. These steps ensure your vacuum will pick up as much as possible.

Set out and clean patio furniture

Haul your patio furniture out of storage and give them a wash with soap and water. Once they dry, you’ll be ready for outdoor relaxation and entertaining. While you're at it, give your windows and siding a spray. Spring cleaning applies ot the outside of the house, too.

Around windows

Take a damp cloth and clean around the window panes and window sills. This will get rid of any dust, dirt, or mold buildup that happened while they were sealed up tight against the cold.

Air out blankets and pillows

Your blankets probably got a lot of use during the cold weather months. Hang them outside on a clothesline or near an open window to air them out. Similarly, wash your pillows to clean them up like new! Toss a couple tennis balls or dryer balls in the dryer with your pillows to keep them fluffy.
