WalletHub Ranks Boise as the #2 City in America for First-Time Homebuyers

Boise sits near the top of another national livability and affordability study.

Adding to Boise’s growing list of accolades, WalletHub announced that Boise is the number 2 city in America for first-time homebuyers. The top spot was occupied by Henderson Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas. The survey looked at 300 cities across the United States and compared them across 26 different key indicators of affordability, market attractiveness, and quality of life such as crime rate, real estate tax rates, property crime statistics, and home price appreciation.

Here is how Boise ranked in some of these livability categories.

Buying a First Home in Boise (1=Best; 150=National Average):

  • • 98th – Real-Estate Tax Rate
  • • 102nd – Cost of Living
  • • 60th – Median Home-Price Appreciation
  • • 43rd – Foreclosure Rate
  • • 116th – Property-Crime Rate
  • • 16th – Total Home-Energy Cost

With 39% of home sales in the 4th quarter of 2019 being from first-time homebuyers, it shows that the millennial generation is quickly entering the housing market. With historically low mortgage rates thanks to COVID-19 and a strong buyer demand breaking expectations, Boise’s housing market shows no signs of slowing down.
