There are numerous advantages to owning a condominium unit, regardless of whether it’s your first or second home. These selling points have contributed to the increasing popularity of condos, especially as single-family homes may be unaffordable for young professionals who are just starting their careers and buying their first home. One key consideration when it comes to purchasing any property is affordability. You have to ensure you are in a financial position to make monthly repayments. As a condo unit costs much less than a single-family home, many first-time homebuyers find that it falls perfectly within their budgets without compromising on the features they are looking for.

Central Location

Many condo buildings are centrally located within close proximity to an urban center. This gives residents convenient access to shopping and dining destinations as well as their workplaces. You may be able to find a home for a similar price point, however, chances are its location will be rather out of the way.


Condominium living means that you will gain access to a wide range of facilities, such as a swimming pool and a gym. If you live in a home, you may not be able to afford to get a pool installed in your backyard or a home gym in your basement. In a condo, you don’t have to. These shared amenities are available for every resident’s use and come included in your Home Owner’s Association (HOA) dues.


Because residents live in close quarters with each other, you can be sure of bumping into a neighbor or two often. In addition, it can provide security for residents when they have to leave for a prolonged period of time, such as going on a work trip. With so many people constantly around, security will be less of a concern. In addition, your complex may hire a security firm to periodically drive through the complex to make sure everything is safe. 

Neighbor Accountability

Every condo complex comes with its own set of rules and regulations which all residents have to abide by, ensuring that every resident can live comfortably and without worries. The management has the right to enforce the rules and step in to resolve any disputes should they arise.

Low Upkeep and Maintenance

When you purchase a condo unit, the only upkeeping and maintenance you will be responsible for are those within your own four walls. Any external maintenance required such as roof work or lawnmowing will be taken care of by the management team. After all, that’s part of what your HOA dues go toward. If never having to do lawn work again appeals to you, condo living may be right for you.
