The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is Back!

Main Treasure Valley Life

After taking a year off in 2020, one of the most beloved events in Boise’s yearly calendar is back! The 2021 Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic returns for another week of hot air balloons soaring over the Treasure Valley in the crisp morning air. It’s an event you don't want to miss!

Here is the schedule for the 2021 Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic

Wednesday, September 1st

Kids Day
This event allows kids to take a “tethered ride” in a hot air balloon to experience what it is like, without taking full flight

Thursday, September 2

Media Day - starts at 6:30 am
Media guests are invited to watch balloons inflate and to take “tethered rides”. The balloons will remain tethered to the ground to prevent full flight. Weather permitting, there will be an optional full flight.

Friday, September 3

VIP Day (6:10 am start. Launch at 7:20 am) and Nite Glow Spectacular (5:30 pm start. 8:05 pm launch)
The double-whammy day of hot air balloons! The morning event will be a celebration of founder Scott Spencer’s passion for hot air balloons and community events. After the tribute launch, all of the balloons will take flight over the city of Boise. The day finished with the Nite Glow Spectacular, where spectators will experience the brilliant glow of inflating balloons in addition to a light show, food, live music, and other fun things to do.

Saturday, September 4

Dawn Patrol (5:30 am prep. 6:00 am inflation starts)
Balloon pilots and staff will prep their balloons before dawn in order to take flight at the crack of dawn and fly as the sun rises over the valley. Bring your warm, fuzzy clothes and favorite hot morning beverages!

Sunday, September 5

Dawn Patrol Finale (5:30 am prep. 6:00 am inflation starts)
To close out the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic, there will be one last dawn patrol ride. Get there early to watch crest prep for launch as soon as the sun peeks out over the mountains.

Here are a few friendly reminders to keep in mind.

  • Due to FAA regulations, drones are not allowed in or around Ann Morrison Park.
  • You can bring lawn chairs to sit in, but be mindful of where the balloons are. They will grow over 20 times bigger while inflating. Follow crew and pilot instructions if they ask you to move.
  • Please leave your dogs and other pets at home. Everybody loves our four-legged friends, but they don't like hot air balloons. The burners emit a noise that hurts their ears, though it is inaudible to humans. Also, loose dogs can interfere with crews and damage the balloons. It’s better to leave them at home and show them pictures when you get home.
  • No smoking is allowed because it may ignite propane fumes.
