Emmett, Idaho is for those who want to enjoy the country life. In 2005 it was even recognized as a Best Place to Live by Sperlings. Here you will find orchards, dirt roads and quick access to mountains, lakes and rivers. Emmett is accessed from either Horshoe Bend to the east, State Street to the south or I84 to the west, so getting there is easy and it is only about 30 minutes to Boise. The city is located in Gem County which also includes Sweet and Ola, two beautiful small towns just minutes up the road and in a picturesque valley.

Most people that have been to Emmett are familiar with Freezeout Hill. In the early days, Emmett Valley was extremely dagerous to travel due to the steep terrain from the southeast end. Early routes went up to the city of Montour and then on to the Boise Basin or the Overland Stage Route west of Emmett. Sometimes it took as many as twelve teams of horses and more than a day to pull a freight wagon up the hill. The story is told of early freighters attempting to come down during a winter nearly freezing to death on top before they could get down the next day. The tough old hill has been known as Freezeout ever since. The winding road to the west of the new grade was constructed in 1919.
