Kuna, Idaho

In 1863, silver and gold ore was discoverd in the Owyhee Mountains southwest of Boise, which resulted in the founding of Silver City. Bringing the ore and supplies between Boise and Silver City was done along a 15-mile long trail. In 1883, the Oregon Short Line Railway Company was building across Idaho and built a train station that crossed the mining trail. This station was named Kuna, which means "end of the trail". The pioneers dug multiple canals so they would have a year-round water supply and irrigation for their crops. After that, the town flourished thanks to the large farms that surrounded it. Despite the agricultural success, Kuna remained small through the 1970's. Since then, people have been moving to Kuna thanks to low land prices, affordable homes, and the availability of larger homesites. In the last 20 years, many new subdivisions are being built to accomodate the city's rapid growth.
